6 short months ago Monterey Park's Vincent Chang, Alhambra's Efren Moreno, South El Monte's Alice Strong and Pasadena's Wes Reutimann decided to have the West San Gabriel Valley Bike Coalition join the Los Angeles County Bike Coalition's regional chapter program.
Over the past year and a half we've gone from a Facebook page with almost a 1,000 friends to a more organized and official group thanks to the support of SGV cyclists, LACBC staff, non-profit organizations like the Rails to Trails Conservancy and local businesses like the Patagonia store in Pasadena! This amazing group of supporters also has raised the organization its first start-up funds, helping us build a strong foundation from which to launch successful outreach, education and policy efforts in 2012!
The first BikeSGV banners just arrived in the mail. An order for group stickers was just placed. The domain bikeSGV.org purchased. And an initial run of high-quality, organic t-shirts should also soon be available. Although small steps in of themselves, each of these will help our efforts to make the San Gabriel Valley a safer and more enjoyable place for cyclists of all ages and abilities to ride more effective!
