Key elements of Alternative 3 include the use of back-in angle parking, which improves drivers’ sightlines when parking, makes it easier to pull in and out of parking spots, and eliminates the risk of “dooring” for cyclists. Alternative 3 would also narrow and reduce number of travel lanes in the City’s historic downtown from 5 to 3 (one in each direction plus a center turning lane), shorten crossing distances for pedestrians via bulb-outs, add additional pedestrian crossings on long blocks where none currently exist, move bus stops to the far side of intersections to improve traffic flow, plant canopy trees in medians and sidewalks, and allow businesses to utilize angle parking spaces for outdoor dining/seating areas.
It is critical that members of the public who support the proposed pedestrian, bicycle and transit improvements weigh in by email and/or in person on 12/27, especially those that live or shop in Temple City, or would visit if it became a model community for pedestrians, cyclists and transit users!
